ActionAid urges Reading goers to join their 'World Leaders Go Wild' partysupport the fight against climate changeMonday 24th August 2009
International development charity ActionAid will be hosting a 'World Leaders Go Wild' party on Thursday 27th August at the charity's infamous Bollocks to Poverty tent at Reading Festival, and they want you to be there. The point of the party is to highlight the fact that politicians need to curb their wild ways and do something to stop climate change, before it's too late. If you turn up at the Bollocks to Poverty on the Thursday night, you can transform into Obama or Brown, Sarkozy or Berlusconi. DJs will provide the party tunes, while masks and suit jackets will be given out and festival goers can sip beer from champagne flutes and nibble on posh chocs. In addition to the party, ActionAid will be giving festival goers the chance to be photographed with a message for the UK Government, ahead of December's crucial climate change summit in Copenhagen. The party is being organised as part of ActionAid's Food vs Dust campaign, where they hope to influence world leaders to take real action at the Copenhagen summit to tackle the climate change issue. The outcome of this summit could decide if millions of people face a future of food or dust. Anella Wickenden said: "Climate change already causes 300,000 deaths a year. Unpredictable and extreme weather means people in the developing world simply cannot grow the food they need to survive. We want everyone at Reading Festival to visit our Bollocks to Poverty tent and send a message to our government. They must make the Copenhagen summit count to make sure we face a future of food not dust." ActionAid is calling on people all over the country to make sure UK politicians get the message loud and clear that the time to act is now - or it will be too late.
